A Headline We'd Like To See
By A.D. Freudenheim

The 8 September 2004 edition of The New York Times carried this headline:

Cheney Warns of Terror Risk if Kerry Wins

Indeed, in a speech the Vice President recently gave he warned his audience, and Americans writ large, that making “the wrong choice” on election day opens the U.S. to a greater risk of terrorist attacks.

That may very well be true. But making “the wrong choice” also carries other serious risks, terrorism included. The headline warning of those might read as follows:

Americans Warn of Economic Stagnation, Quagmire Wars, Invasions of Privacy, Loss of Personal Liberties, Greater Cooperation Between Church & State, Bankrupt Health Care Systems, Bankrupt Social Security System, International Isolation, Massive Debt, Richer Rich People, Poorer Poor People, And Increased Terror Risk
if Bush-Cheney Wins
*

That might catch people’s attention and perhaps raise some much-needed awareness of the true dangers that lurk within George W. Bush and Dick Cheney’s Big Government Conservativism. Here's to hoping it shows up on a Wall Street Journal near you.
